Van Gölü veya yöresel adıyla Van Denizi, Tatvan ilçesi sınırları içerisinde bulunan Nemrut volkanik dağının patlaması sonucu oluşan kraterde biriken suların oluşturduğu varsayılan volkanik bir göldür.
Çok sayıda koyu bulunan Van Gölü‘nün yüzölçümü 3.713 km²’dir. Van Gölü hem tatlısu hem de deniz ekosistemlerinden farklı bir sucul ekosistemdir. Suları tuzlu ve sodalıdır. Göl suyu tuzluluk oranı %o19, pH’sı ise 9.8 dir. Göl su seviyesi iklime bağlı olarak yükselip, düşmektedir. Ancak ortalama olarak denizden yüksekliği 1646 metredir. Fazlası…

One of the most remarkable natural treasures of Turkey and of Eastern Turkey in particular, is the Tortum Lake and Waterfall, 100km north of Erzurum. The lake 8 km long and 1 km wide was formed as the result of a great landslide which blocked the valley though which the Tortum River flowed. At the same time the water sought a new outlet over a fault with a drop of 40m. The hollow left in the Kemerlidag slope on the left of the valley by the fall of rock is still clearly visible. Tomara Waterfall, Fourteen km southwest of Şiran, The Tomara Waterfall can be reached by a gravel road. The village of Seydibaba is only 2 km from the waterfall and there is a minibus service to this village.
The Tomara Waterfall waterfall formed by a powerful spring which spills over rocks and falls 8 m. is ice-cold. The pristine surroundings are covered with lush hazelnut, oak and hornbeam trees.
